Simple New Year's Eve Appetizer Dip

This recipe makes an easy, layered dip suitable for parties. It uses ground beef and taco seasoning for flavor.

Ingredients
  

Dip Base
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water
  • 16 ounce can refried beans
Toppings
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced jalapenos
  • 1 cup black olive slices
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 30 40 black olive slices Optional decoration

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Baking dish (round or rectangle)

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned; drain the fat.
  4. Add taco seasoning and water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Lower the heat and simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  6. Spread the refried beans into the bottom of your baking dish.
  7. Spread the taco meat evenly over the layer of refried beans.
  8. Sprinkle on diced tomatoes, diced jalapenos, and chopped olives.
  9. Top the mixture with the shredded cheeses.
  10. Arrange the optional black olive slices over the top of the cheese.
  11. Bake for 25 minutes or until the dip is heated through.
  12. Serve the dip hot.

Notes

This dip can be assembled ahead of time, but bake it just before serving for the best texture and temperature.
