Mushroom and Swiss Burger

A classic mushroom and Swiss burger recipe.

Ingredients
  

For the Burgers
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Topping
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns split

Equipment

  • Grill or Skillet
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Form the ground beef into four equal patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and onion. Cook until softened and lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Grill or cook the burger patties to your desired doneness.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, top each burger with a slice of Swiss cheese. Cover briefly to melt the cheese.
  5. Toast the burger buns if desired.
  6. Assemble the burgers: place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun, top with the mushroom and onion mixture, and then the top half of the bun.

Notes

Serve immediately with your favorite burger toppings and sides.
