Method
- Prepare the sushi rice according to your preferred method, seasoning it with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Let it cool slightly.
- Place a sheet of nori on a sushi mat. Spread a thin, even layer of the prepared sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
- Arrange strips of prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted red pepper, and fresh basil leaves horizontally across the rice, about one-third of the way up from the bottom edge.
- Using the sushi mat, carefully roll the nori tightly from the bottom edge upwards, pressing gently to secure the filling.
- Moisten the top border of the nori with a little water to seal the roll. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- With a sharp, wet knife, slice each roll into 6-8 pieces.
- Arrange the Italian sushi pieces on a serving platter and drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving.
Notes
You can experiment with other Italian ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes, olives, or pesto for different flavor combinations.
