- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease your baking pan.
- In a large bowl, beat the room temperature butter with both sugars until the mixture is light and creamy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just incorporated. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chopped chocolate and walnuts.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly soft.
- Let the cookie cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into 8 squares and serving.
Notes
You can substitute milk chocolate chips for semi-sweet if you prefer a sweeter cookie. For a richer flavor, use browned butter instead of melted butter.
