- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the sifted flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate small bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter and flour mixture. Beat on medium speed for about two minutes until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
You can substitute whole milk with buttermilk for a slightly tangier flavor. This cake pairs well with a simple buttercream frosting or a dusting of powdered sugar.
