- In a large bowl, combine chicken pieces with olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
- Let the chicken marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature, or longer in the refrigerator.
- While the chicken marinates, prepare the garlic sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt until smooth.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Cook the chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and lightly browned.
- Serve the chicken shawarma warm with the garlic sauce. You can serve it in pita bread with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
Notes
For a spicier shawarma, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the marinade. You can also grill the chicken for a smoky flavor.
