Ingredients

For the Brisket
  • 1 piece Beef brisket about 3 pounds
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 cup Beef broth
For the Caramelized Finish
  • 1/2 cup Barbecue sauce your favorite kind
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar

Equipment

  • Slow cooker
  • Forks
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. Rub the brisket all over with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Place the seasoned brisket in your slow cooker. Pour the beef broth around the brisket.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the brisket is very tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  4. Carefully remove the brisket from the slow cooker and place it on a baking sheet. Using two forks, shred the brisket.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the shredded brisket and toss to coat.
  6. Broil the brisket on the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes, or until the edges are caramelized and slightly crispy. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  7. Let the brisket rest for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve the caramelized pulled beef brisket on buns, with your favorite sides, or as a topping for nachos.
